20 Years of Doing This One Thing Well

20 Years of Doing This One Thing Well

As Brand Industry Services approaches 20 years in business, we look back on where we started, the people and clients who have been part of the journey, and the value of doing this one thing well.

Coming up on the 31st of October, it will be exactly 20 years since we started this business.

That is a significant milestone, and it has prompted us to spend a bit of time looking back. Looking through old photos, thinking about where we started, and reflecting on how much has changed over the years, it is hard not to feel grateful.

Over that time, we have grown in size and capability. What began as a smaller operation has grown into a business with broader capacity across adhesive print, signage and project work.

But while plenty has changed, some of the most important things have not.

One of those is the value of doing this one thing well.

There is a lot to be said for staying focused on the work you believe in, continuing to build capability around it, and committing to doing it properly. For us, that has meant staying close to the process, building practical knowledge over time, and having a team that genuinely cares about the outcome.

And that brings us to the part that matters most: the people.

Some of the team here have been with us almost from the beginning. That says a great deal. It says something about the kind of people this business has been built around, and the kind of commitment it takes to keep showing up, keep learning, and keep caring year after year. The same can also be said for some of our clients. We are very aware that a number of them have been with us for almost 20 years as well, and that kind of loyalty and trust means a great deal to us.

Truck

The photos included with this article were taken in 2016, when we moved out of our first premises in Burswood. At the time, our print area was on the second floor, so we spent plenty of time carrying vinyl up those stairs. We loved that little space, but we had definitely outgrown it. On moving day, captured in these photos, we all held our breath as the printers were lifted one by one by crane from a top-floor loading bay onto a waiting truck. Thankfully, we were still very small back then. Looking at where we are now, it is hard to imagine what a move like that would involve today.

And in the photo at the head of this blog, you can spot our fearless production manager Chad — a beacon of positivity amongst the chaos that day, and still exactly that today.

That is one of the nicest parts of looking back. Yes, the equipment has changed. The scale has changed. The capability has changed. But the character of the team, the care in the work, and the commitment to doing things properly are still the same qualities that continue to shape the business now.

Reception

Twenty years in business is not just a reflection of time passing. It reflects consistency, resilience, and a willingness to keep improving. More than anything, it reflects the people behind it.

Leading up to our 20-year milestone this year, we will be shining the spotlight on some of our team, both long-standing and newer faces, who we are so lucky to work alongside every day, as well as some of our clients, who have grown with us over the years.

It also feels like the right time to say thank you.

Thank you to the people who have been part of the journey. Thank you to those who have brought skill, humour, perspective and care to the work along the way. And thank you especially to those who have been here for so much of it, helping shape not just what we do, but how we do it.

We are grateful for how far we have come, and even more grateful for the team behind it.

Twenty years on, that is still what matters most.
